Innovation Engineering and the Wheesbee Platform: A Deep Insight View

The DIAMONDS4IF project, with the support of its entire consortium (PNO, RWE, RAAMS, Meyer Burger, Innovation Engineering) aims, through its activities and with the help of the new enhanced Wheesbee software, to identify Horizon2020 (H2020) projects that have developed innovative technologies in the field of renewable energy and support them in applying to the next EU Innovation Fund (IF) calls.

During these months, potential IF application candidates, project owners, and those responsible for exploitation have been and will continue to be further identified, selected, and contacted by PNO. The selection will mainly be done by mining EC (European Commission) database and other relevant sources, such as our innovative AI-based selection tool Wheesbee.

Wheesbee, developed by Innovation Engineering and PNO property, is an innovative platform – accessible via www.wheesbee.eu – designed to give support to research and innovation processes.

For the DIAMONDS4IF project, Wheesbee represents a key tool for the candidate selection process as it provides access to a huge database built by integrating millions of contents from different sources. It includes patents, scientific papers, funded projects at both European and national levels, as well as funding and collaboration opportunities. Wheesbee can analyze millions of documents from different sources, extracting pertinent information and insights, integrating heterogeneous data, and building a cleaned and harmonized “data lake,” on which all the features to support research and innovation processes are developed.

Wheesbee is not only a data search software, but it can also organize and visualize information, offering graphical representation of the aggregated data and the possibility to export data into an Excel tool. Thanks to this tool, PNO has been able to carry out the tasks foreseen within Work Package 1 (WP), to identify suitable H2020 project results’ owners in order to translate their projects into competitive Innovation Fund applications.

The potential of Wheesbee goes beyond the DIAMONDS4IF project. This platform is designed to identify top stakeholders, find new business opportunities, help visualize and access relevant insights on technology trends, monitor competitors, and stay updated on current technological developments. It also increases innovation opportunities and helps in optimize R&D investment by relying on a database of funding opportunities built by integrating several different sources.
